Can you wake up sleepwalkers?

Sleepwalking is a rare phenomenon. About 15% of 5 to 12 year olds have experienced sleepwalking. However, the proportion drops drastically by puberty and this form of  sleep disorder  hardly ever occurs in adulthood. What is behind it and how do you behave when you meet a sleepwalker? The phenomenon of sleepwalking is one of the so-called parasonias. This refers to abnormal events during sleep or at the threshold between being awake and asleep. Sleepwalking behavior is complex. Simply sitting up, referred to as “waking up confused,” or pacing around the home may occur. After waking up, there is usually no memory of anything.

“Sleepwalking Security”

There is a common assumption that sleepwalkers can orientate themselves well and generally do not endanger themselves. However, research shows the opposite. The coordination of movements is extremely poor. The sleepwalker often stumbles or falters.

Walking in a straight line is one of the greatest dangers. Despite the open eyes, the sleepwalker cannot see if something is moving towards him. Obstacles can inflict injuries on him. There is also a risk of falling, since the sleepwalker does not notice when his path ends.

What should you do if you meet a sleepwalker?

A sleepwalker is usually unresponsive. When he gives an answer, he articulates it poorly. One should try to steer the sleepwalker back to his bed. Care must be taken to avoid waking him up. He would otherwise be startled and be upset about his current situation.

In the event of danger, he would probably react incorrectly out of fright. In the rarest cases it happens that a sleepwalker becomes violent. In bringing the sleeping one back, all that matters is protecting them from themselves.

Does the moon play a role in sleepwalking?

Sleepwalking is also known as “moonstruck”. In fact, the sleepwalker tends to orient himself towards a light source. It can be the moon or any other light he is a light among many in a common residential area.
