Chestnut soup: warms in cool autumn

Chestnuts, also known as sweet chestnuts, are harvested from the end of September and are on everyone’s lips during the cold season. The sweet chestnuts not only taste good as a healthy snack from the oven, they are also a delicious change as a soup.

Chestnuts are delicious, easy to prepare and the perfect ingredient for autumn and winter. In addition, chestnuts not only contain vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C, but also provide important  nutrients  such as  potassium  and omega-3 fatty acids. Chestnut soup – shopping list

You will need these ingredients:

  • 4 shallots
  • 7 sprigs  of thyme
  • 300 g chestnuts (cooked and peeled)
  • 30 g Butter
  • 600 ml vegetable broth
  • 200 g fresh cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Delicious chestnut soup in 45 minutes, easily prepared.

  1. Peel and dice shallots. Then rinse the thyme and shake dry. Chop the chestnuts and set aside one or two tablespoons of chestnuts and a sprig of thyme.
  2. Heat the butter, sauté the shallots and thyme and sauté the chestnuts. Deglaze with vegetable stock and crème fraîche and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Now puree the soup with the hand blender until it reaches a creamy consistency and season to taste.
  4. Garnish with the remaining chestnuts and thyme.
