Coffee: The popular pick-me-up is so healthy!

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks. Enjoy it black, with milk, or as a cappuccino or latte macchiato. But how healthy is coffee and how does the dark pick-me-up affect our body?

There are many different types of coffee  . However, the coffee bean is the origin of each of these delicious and creative versions. Depending on the variety, it contains between 0.8 and 4 percent caffeine. With less than four cups of coffee a day, no negative health consequences are to be expected, on the contrary: coffee has a positive effect on the organism.

Coffee – the healthy pick-me-up

Coffee is a real bundle of energy without calories. It stimulates the metabolism and also increases our calorie consumption. If you want to lose weight, you can enjoy black coffee without any problems. However, coffee has other health benefits.

1. Coffee: Healthy “doping” for our brain

The caffeine in coffee in particular is responsible for the stimulant effect. It narrows the blood vessels. In this context, coffee consumption increases blood pressure for a short time, so our brain can be supplied with more oxygen and is therefore more awake, active and concentrated.

According to studies, regular coffee consumption can also reduce the risk of developing dementia. But coffee doesn’t just wake you up. Older people in particular can  fall asleep better in the evening thanks to a cup of coffee , and the risk of a stroke is said to be lower thanks to coffee consumption.

2. Coffee is heart healthy

Drinking coffee increases blood pressure and has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. Coffee lovers benefit from consumption: coffee is said to reduce the risk of heart disease by eleven percent and increase life expectancy. Coffee is also used pharmaceutically for  heart failure  ,  asthma  and other respiratory diseases.

Coffee can, but does not have to, have a negative effect on cholesterol levels. Filter coffee in particular has no effect on blood lipid levels, while espresso can have a positive effect on cholesterol levels.

Athletes and athletes also use coffee to be more efficient and fitter in competitions. Caffeine was even on the doping list for a while, but since everyone reacts differently to caffeine, it was taken off the index again.

3. Coffee: effects on the stomach and intestines

Coffee stimulates the gastrointestinal system and acts as a “digestive aid”. It increases gastric acid production and bile secretion. Coffee consumption prevents  constipation  , but is not recommended for  diarrhea . In addition, the chlorogenic acid in coffee can prevent colon cancer and regular coffee consumption reduces gallstones.

Coffee has other health benefits, such as lowering blood sugar levels or preventing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Depending on the type and taste, coffee can also simply be a warm and invigorating start to the day or an enjoyable dessert after a meal.
