Corona virus map: Current figures and forecast for Germany

With the help of scientific data from artificial intelligence, doctors and data specialists have developed the first interactive map that not only provides information on the current spread of the corona virus, but also on future figures in various regions of Germany.

Data from artificial intelligence serves as the basis for the coronavirus map

The facts and figures in the coronavirus map are based on the findings of an artificial intelligence called , which queries a user’s symptoms of illness online, whereupon the user receives information on possible causes.

With more than 15 years of research and development behind the symptom checker, which is certified as a medical device, and due to the high usage rate and accuracy, artificial intelligence has been able to establish the largest disease database in the world. With the collected spatial and temporal data, trends can be identified.

Accuracy of over 96 percent related to COVID-19

So far, more than 100 million tests relating to COVID-19 have been carried out worldwide with the digital health assistant. Symptoma achieved an accuracy rate of over 96 percent for people with COVID-19 who showed symptoms.

This is the result of a  study that has been scientifically tested and published in the journal Nature . Different clinical cases, which were compared with case reports of COVID-19 infections, served as the basis.

Symptoma was tested on the complaints of two groups of patients: (1) symptomatic COVID-19 patients and (2) a control group of patients without COVID-19 infection but with flu-like symptoms.

Symptoma correctly predicted 96.66 percent of the first group to be infected with COVID-19 and correctly identified 96.31 percent of the patients in the control group that they were not infected with the coronavirus.

In a  study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, the digital health assistant Symptoma  also achieved the highest accuracy for COVID-19 compared to ten similar symptom checkers. 2

Orders from the European Commission and the Austrian government

As early as April 2020  , Symptoma was commissioned by the European Commission to make the technology available to citizens. The Austrian government also relies on the digital health assistant: Symptoma was tested by the Innovation Service Center of Federal Procurement (IÖB) and received the IÖB-awarded seal at the  Innovation Marketplace  for particularly innovative solutions for public administration.

The Austrian  Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location awarded Symptoma as a top innovation  and presented it to other state governments worldwide as the best digital COVID-19 solution from Austria.

Federal Procurement Austria officially lists Symptoma as a helpful solution for corona risk assessment.  This means that Symptoma can also be used as a support by public administration institutions. Symptoma has now been commissioned by the City of Vienna, health insurance companies, companies and medical institutions to make the tool available to patients, employees and citizens.

Current figures and forecasts for the corona virus in Germany

If you want to know whether the coronavirus numbers in individual districts of the federal states are likely to increase or decrease in the coming days, you can use the interactive coronavirus map to find out. The forecasts build on the figures previously reported by the health authorities (Risklayer) and also use the results of the current risk assessments made with the digital health assistant.

Because online risk assessment is easily accessible and used by patients in the early stages of the disease, early prognosis is possible. Two scientific publications 1,3  confirm this effect.

Due to the dynamics of the infection process, new political measures and the frequency of online risk assessments and PCR tests that vary from day to day, the prognosis information is not guaranteed.

In addition, the coronavirus map provides information on other values for each region, which are based on the figures officially published by the health authorities (Risklayer) and data from

  • Incidence:  The 7-day incidence indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have been newly infected with the coronavirus within the last seven days. As a result, the value enables good comparability between different regions.
  • Deaths:  This value indicates the number of people per day who died from or with COVID-19.
  • New infections:  This is the number of newly reported cases of infection per day.
  • R value:  The  reproduction number R  indicates how many people a person infected with the coronavirus infects on average per week.
  • Forecast:  The forecast values in the coronavirus map provide information about the infection process in the coming days.

Important: Observe protective measures!

Regardless of how low or high the infection numbers are regionally, you should definitely observe the currently applicable measures set out by the government. These include, for example, contact restrictions, distance regulations and sufficient hygiene measures. You can find more  tips on protecting yourself from infection here .
