Current corona situation: health system will soon be at its limit

Health Minister Jens Spahn and RKI boss Lothar Wieler comment at the press conference on the third wave, increasing numbers of infections and the current vaccination numbers. The Corona marathon is not over yet.

Health Minister Jens Spahn and RKI boss Lothar Wieler continue to warn of virus mutations and increasing incidence numbers. Attention and compliance with the AHA rules are still important.

Compulsory testing for air travel from Monday night

The new entry regulation will come into force on March 30, 00:01. For air travel to Germany, a negative test must be presented before departure. This should stop the spread of the virus in Germany and protect travellers. A negative rapid antigen test is sufficient.

Mutation B.1.1.7 still on the rise

The virus variants have additional biological properties. The risk of infection can be up to 70 percent higher, which accelerates exponential growth. In addition, the British virus mutation leads to severe infection processes, which can push the health system and hospitals to their limits as early as the end of April.

Examples from Israel and Great Britain show that even increased vaccinations cannot reduce the rising incidence figures.

Vaccination progress: 15 million vaccine doses to be expected

So far, 10 percent of the German population has been vaccinated with around 12 million doses of vaccine. Another 15 million will follow and no vaccine will be given away. Medical practices are also to start from April, while vaccination centers continue to vaccinate in parallel.

Especially the second group with high priority should be vaccinated as soon as possible, since these groups of people include people in public service with a lot of contact and there are also a large number of people.

The first vaccination successes are already evident in the 80-year-old age group. The incidence in this age group has already fallen significantly.

RKI boss Wieler appeals to comply with corona rules

The head of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) Lothar Wieler also points out that all offers that can help contain the virus should be used. These include the Corona warning app, free quick tests and mandatory AHA rules and wearing FFP2 masks.

Contact during the Easter holidays should only take place in the closest circle, if possible at a distance outdoors. He also adds that on the one hand the virus can be transmitted even without symptoms and that people with cold symptoms should definitely inform a doctor. Even a negative self-test in the case of symptoms would not guarantee sufficient security.
