Current nutrition trends

Nutrition is also subject to current trends. We’ve made ourselves smart for you and picked up some trends. One thing is certain: being healthy is in! Because healthy eating is becoming more and more popular. Vitamin bombs such as  lemons  or superfoods such as hemp seeds are in vogue, and freshly squeezed juices are also a must on the weekly menu. We have compiled the seven hottest nutritional trends for you – have fun trying them out!

Healthy is ‘in’

The current nutritional trends are all about health: Healthy, vitamin-rich  foods  are becoming even more important than they have been up to now. Organic products are becoming the focus of interest and are also playing an increasingly important role in gastronomy. Seasonal products from sustainable cultivation are also becoming increasingly popular. At the same time, vegetarian and  vegan  foods are becoming even more popular because more and more people want to reduce their meat consumption. Be sure to take this trend with you: Consciously live a healthy life and do something good for yourself and your body!

Black Rice

Black  rice  is particularly nutritious compared to other types of rice. It contains many trace elements and minerals – especially iron – and is also rich in protein. In addition, black rice is said to contain a particularly large number of antioxidants that render free radicals harmless.

Black rice is one of the whole grain rice varieties, is prepared unpeeled and has a slightly nutty taste. It is grown in Thailand, Japan and China, among others. While black rice is mainly served as an accompaniment to savory dishes, it is also used in sweet desserts in some countries: In Bali, for example, this type of rice is used to prepare the traditional black rice pudding.

For a black rice pudding, boil black rice with a little peeled ginger in plenty of water. Then sweeten with palm sugar and decorate with some coconut milk or coconut cream.

Fresh juices

Freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices have been growing in popularity for years. This trend is now reaching its peak so far, because “healthy and homemade” is the current motto. The healthy  juices  are particularly recommended for those who have problems consuming five servings of fruit or vegetables a day. It is important that you either squeeze the juice yourself or buy it fresh from a juice shop. In this way you can ensure that the juices are not mixed with sugar or other substances.

hemp seeds

Hemp seeds are one of the local superfoods that are becoming more and more of a trend. In muesli,  yoghurt  or sprinkled over the salad, the sweet nutty seeds (preferably unpeeled) are a healthy addition. Similar to flaxseed or  chia seeds  , they are rich in fiber and can help to boost digestion.

In addition, hemp seeds contain many healthy ingredients, such as vitamins B1, B2 and E, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids,  amino acids  and many proteins. Their high levels of antioxidants and polyunsaturated fatty acids can also help protect the cardiovascular system and lower cholesterol levels.

Anyone who associates hemp primarily with cannabis as a drug and fears an intoxicating side effect when eating hemp seeds, rest assured: The proportion of THC in commercially available hemp seeds is below the legal limit of 0.2 percent, so intoxication from such industrial hemp is impossible.

The seeds can not only be bought whole, but also pressed into  hemp oil  or  ground into hemp flour  . The latter is particularly interesting for people with gluten intolerance: since hemp seeds are gluten-free, they are a good alternative to rye or wheat.

Mulberries

Mulberries not only taste delicious, they are also said to have a positive effect on our health: Mulberries are said to be able to relieve the symptoms of  sore throat  and hoarseness. Since mulberries have a particularly large number of antioxidants, they are also considered the perfect anti-aging fruit. Antioxidants switch off free radicals that damage the genetic material in our cells. This damage to the genetic material can lead to diseases such as  diabetes , arteriosclerosis or rheumatism.

Mulberries resemble blackberries in appearance and also have a very sweet and juicy taste. However, while blackberries are also grown in our region, mulberries are particularly native to Asia and North America. The sweet berries are available in different colors. The most common are white, red and black mulberries. They can be eaten raw or dried – fresh mulberries can also be made into jam or jelly.

Oriental cuisine

A few years ago, Asian cuisine was still considered a healthy change, but now oriental cuisine is all the rage when it comes to discovering new favorite dishes. This takes a bit of getting used to for our palate, but it is just as healthy as Asian cuisine.

Legumes such as lentils, beans and chickpeas, lamb, yoghurt, couscous, bulgur and mint are used in particular in oriental cuisine. The dishes are then refined with exotic spices and aromatic herbs. For dessert there are sweet treats with dates,  honey , pistachios and almonds. Try it out for yourself!

algae

In line with the current health trend, algae are very popular. So far known primarily as a component of sushi, algae are increasingly being used in other ways, for example to refine soups or salads. The green sea creatures are excellent suppliers of minerals, in addition to iodine they also contain large amounts of  zinc . Algae are also recommended because of their high protein content.

Algae are also becoming increasingly popular as a detox agent. For example, spirulina and chlorella algae are said to help detoxify the body by absorbing harmful substances in the body that are later excreted together with the algae. The algae can be taken as capsules, tablets or as a powder – for example in a smoothie.

Tee-Cocktails

Teas have finally freed themselves from their antiquated image. The trend not only includes tea as a hot drink – tea is also enjoyed cold. Whether as a refreshing homemade iced  tea  or a cool tea cocktail, you cannot avoid tea. You can easily prepare a wide variety of tea cocktails yourself: Simply refine the cooled tea with ice, juice, fruit or a dash of liqueur. Enjoy your meal!

Lemons

With their bright color, lemons not only put you in a good mood, they are also extremely healthy: they fit in perfectly with the current health motto and should therefore not be missing. Due to their high vitamin C content, lemons are   a popular home remedy for infections and help to strengthen the immune system all year round.

The sour fruits are usually easy to integrate into everyday life: You can refine salads or meat dishes with lemon, but you can also spice up mineral water or tea. Try it!

gluten free diet

Gluten is a sticky protein found in various types of grain. However, more and more people can no longer tolerate gluten – they suffer from celiac disease (gluten intolerance). In this disease, eating foods containing gluten leads to chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane of the small intestine. The consequences of this are nausea, vomiting and  diarrhea .

However, a gluten-free diet is also trendy for people who do not suffer from celiac disease. With this form of nutrition, products made from wheat, barley or rye are primarily avoided. On the other hand, foods that contain corn, millet, rice,  buckwheat , quinoa or soybeans are permitted.

By doing without bread, pastries, pasta and many ready-made products, the diet is particularly conscious with this form of diet. However, you should make sure that the body continues to be supplied with all the important nutrients. By the way, anyone hoping to lose weight through a gluten-free diet should bear in mind that products such as cornmeal or rice are less suitable for losing weight than whole grain products because they have a higher glycemic index.
