Delta Variant: New Symptoms

The delta variant of the corona virus is currently on everyone’s lips. The rapid spread and a higher risk of infection for those who have been vaccinated for the first time are cause for concern. The virus is also more difficult to distinguish from a flu or cold than the wild type: these are the symptoms of the Delta variant.

The Delta variant has already spread to the UK. Affected people complain about other symptoms than with the previous COVID-19 disease. The symptoms of the previous variant and the Delta variant differ from each other.

COVID-19: wild-type symptoms

During the 2020 wave of infections, these symptoms were common:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • shortness of breath
  • muscle and joint pain
  • Sore throat

Loss of smell or taste were also a sign of a corona infection.

Delta Variant: New Symptoms

The delta variant, on the other hand, is difficult   to differentiate from influenza . For younger people in particular, the COVID-19 disease feels like a bad cold. The Delta mutation is particularly noticeable through these symptoms:

  • headache
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Stomach and intestinal problems

If these symptoms occur, a PCR test is highly recommended to rule out a possible infection. These warning signs associated with Delta are also common in children and adolescents.
