Do you really get herpes in disgust?

Iiiiiiiiiiiiih how disgusting – now I get  herpes . The rumor that you get herpes if you are disgusted by something is known to most. But what’s the real truth to this rumor?

The word herpes comes from the Greek and refers to an infectious disease caused by viruses.

spread of herpes

Herpes is transmitted by droplet and smear infections, which can already occur in childhood (mother-child contact). The virus enters the body through the oral mucosa.

Once infected, infected forever

98% of the population carry the herpes virus – the virus rests inactive in the nerve tracts. However, if the  immune system  is weakened, the virus becomes active again. Triggers are stress, disgust, fear, feverish infections, mechanical irritation or climate change.

So it’s actually true: Anyone who carries the virus and is disgusted by something can actually get herpes.

How is herpes manifested?

When herpes breaks out, the skin tightens,  itches , burns and tingles hours beforehand. After 1-2 days, the cold sore (Herpes Simplex Labialis) breaks out in groups with the typically filled blisters and usually dries up to yellowish crusts after 3-10 days. The immune system eliminates the viruses, the remaining viruses lie dormant and wait for another opportunity to break out.
