Ecstasy and hallucinogens

Ecstasy and hallucinogens
  • The party drug ecstasy is usually offered and consumed in pill, tablet or capsule form. Ecstasy (also XTC) consists of various active ingredients, including (but not necessarily) MDMA. The colourful “party pills” can also contain other substances, such as amphetamines, caffeine, MDA or MDE. The consumer usually does not know precisely what is included in the drug ecstasy. Since the ecstasy tablets are often beautifully coloured and printed with funny motifs, they appear harmless. The drug ecstasy has an enormous potential for damage and addiction.

Due to the different composition, the mode of action of individual ecstasy pills is also different. In most cases, however, there is a feeling of infinite efficiency, impaired judgment and high sociability. However, there are also:

With long-term consumption, brain damage, personality changes, emotional coldness, depression, concentration disorders, and psychoses occur. There is also a risk of kidney failure, bleeding, heart problems, and permanent damage to the immune system.

    hallucinogens

Hallucinogens are very different psychoactive substances, but they all have a similar effect on the individual user. Types of hallucinogens include LSD (short for lysergic acid diethylamide), toadstools, mescaline or nightshade plants, and synthetic substances such as PCP and ketamine.

All of these drugs are characterized by the fact that they produce profound changes in consciousness.

Effects of hallucinogens such as LSD

As the name suggests, hallucinogens produce hallucinations. Consumers completely lose the sense of time and space and perceive things that cannot be rationally explained. The basic physical mood before taking the drugs plays an important role. If the consumer is in a good mood, the hallucinogens can trigger euphoria and high feelings. In the case of depressed, oppressed people, however, this can turn into the opposite. Horror, panic and anxiety are the result.

Due to the strong delusions, users can quickly put themselves in danger, for example, by jumping out of the window and thinking they are on the diving board of a swimming pool. In addition, hallucinations and psychoses can persist even after the drug effects have worn off.
