New Year’s Eve: Happy New Year

New Year's Eve: Happy New Year

The Germans and the Romans celebrated festivals at the turn of the year. New Year’s Eve, familiar in Germany, was given to the feast day by the first holy pope who did not suffer martyrdom. So that the New Year’s Eve party on his name day doesn’t become a martyrdom for you either, you should pay attention to the following to avoid accidents and dangers and to be able to welcome the new year with a happy, carefree New Year’s Eve celebration. According to statistics, relatively little happens on New Year’s Eve before 10 p.m.; the emergency rooms are usually full afterward.

New Year’s Eve: Stay away from homemade rockets

What would New Year’s be without fireworks? Initially, this should be used to drive away evil spirits. But the colourful and loud spectacle can quickly become a nightmare – young people, mainly, keep trying to make New Year’s firecrackers themselves. These attempts often go awry: the result is torn off fingers or hands, burn injuries and even death. Hearing damage and eye injuries are also typical and dangerous injuries on New Year’s Eve.

But it’s not just homemade firecrackers that harbour risks; rockets that aren’t approved by the authorities should also be ignored in supermarkets.

Rules of conduct for the fireworks

On New Year’s Eve, make sure that the bottle or jar from which the rocket is launched cannot fall over. A sufficiently large safety distance is essential for people, animals, buildings or cars – it is not uncommon for apartment fires to break out on New Year’s Eve due to misdirected firecrackers.

Children should always be supervised and only use firecrackers and sparklers under supervision. Duds should be disposed of and not re-ignited. An enlightening conversation should be held with young people in particular because this age group often encourages unreasonable behaviour – especially when alcohol is involved.

Smoke-free into the new year.

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to quit smoking. In itself, the time for a cigarette-free new beginning is also appropriate, especially since you will undoubtedly find many fellow sufferers who join the project. The disadvantage is that, especially on New Year’s Eve, many occasional smokers take advantage of the exuberant atmosphere and gladly accept the cigarette offered or treat themselves to a cigar to celebrate the day.

Anyone serious about their New Year’s resolution should celebrate with non-smokers or benefit from the smoking ban at public festivities.

Pop the corks on New Year’s Eve.

It’s a similar story with alcohol: the new year is traditionally toasted with sparkling wine. But often, on New Year’s Eve, it’s not just one glass. Many are so drunk by midnight that it is no longer possible for them to use firecrackers responsibly. Therefore, anyone who already feels drunk should not fire rockets on New Year’s Eve. Since responsiveness is significantly reduced, holding a cracker in your hand for too long is easy.

Under the influence of alcohol, fisticuffs and brawls occur again and again, especially at larger, public New Year’s Eve parties. Therefore, anyone noticing the mood changes should withdraw from the turmoil and look for a quiet spot. Sometimes, there is so much alcohol flowing among young people on New Year’s Eve that there is a risk of alcohol poisoning, and the evening ends in the hospital. In order not to let it get that far, you shouldn’t drink on an empty stomach and not wildly mixed up – and above all, you should know your limits.

After the New Year’s party

In addition, consider in advance whether you will stay with your host after the New Year’s Eve celebration, join a carpool or what a particular timetable for the public transport system will be like on New Year’s Eve. It is also best to save the number for the taxi call on your cell phone before leaving for the party.

You should only drive if you stay sober – even small amounts of alcohol impair your ability to react before you even realize it. Add tiredness, bad weather conditions, slippery roads, shards on the road and, last but not least, many drunk pedestrians.

One-Night-Stand a Silvester

Some may not consciously plan how to get back into their own home. However, if you want to end New Year’s Eve in a strange bed, it’s best to pack condoms to avoid a rude awakening the next day.

Studies also show that more and more young people, in particular, are having unprotected sex. Statistics show that STDs are on the rise in industrialized countries as well. The rate of infection with HIV is also increasing year by year, and the treatment methods are far from good enough for the issue to be dealt with carefree.

New Year’s Eve and Hearing

New Year’s Eve is often a particular strain on the ears: Loud music and, in particular, firecrackers that explode too close cause tinnitus, ruptured eardrums or other, sometimes irreparable, hearing damage every year. Children suffer the most. They are unaware of the danger, and young people, because they quickly become careless. Lastly, animals suffer from the banging on New Year’s Eve.
