Johnson & Johnson: Frequent vaccine breakthroughs

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) is in favor of a booster after the corona vaccination with the vector vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. The booster vaccination should take place with an mRNA vaccine. A first draft decision is already in consultation with the federal states and experts, a final recommendation is to follow.

According to STIKO, a second vaccination with an  mRNA vaccine  can be administered as early as four weeks after the single vaccination with  Johnson  & Johnson.

Johnson & Johnson vaccine: Low potency against Delta

With different virus variants and mutations, problems arise for vaccine manufacturers. The vector vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is only slightly effective against the prevailing Delta variant – the STIKO speaks of insufficient vaccination protection. However, the vaccine can still protect against a severe course.

The Vaccination Commission is particularly concerned about the number of vaccination breakthroughs: the relationship between the doses administered and the number of infections is greatest in connection with Johnson & Johnson.
