Lowering Blood Sugar: Tips 6-10

If your blood sugar level is high, you can do something to lower it without medication. From exercise to the proper diet to exotic remedies such as aloe vera or pink catharanthe – the following tips will help you.

Tip 6: Exercise regularly

When you exercise, your muscles work harder and use more energy than when resting. Due to the increased energy consumption, more glucose is burned and the blood sugar level drops. Sufficient exercise also counteracts insulin resistance. Sufficient exercise is also essential when blood sugar levels are high because it makes it easier to lose weight.

If you’ve done little or no exercise, do just what is necessary: start by walking short distances or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Or get some fresh air at the weekend and go for a long walk.


Tip 7: Use sweetener instead of sugar

Apples have a particularly positive effect on blood sugar. They contain large amounts of the dietary fibre pectin. This ensures that the sugar in food is only slowly absorbed into the blood. Since pectin is mainly in the apple peel, it should be eaten. In addition to apples, carrots also have a significant pectin content.

In addition to apples, sour citrus fruits such as pomelos or grapefruit are also said to affect blood sugar levels positively. In the case of grapefruit, in addition to the pulp, a grapefruit seed extract is also recommended for people with diabetes.

Eating enough fruit is also recommended for diabetics because you can get enough vitamin C and vitamins from the B group. While vitamin C can alleviate complications from diabetes, the B vitamins counteract the damage to the nerves that is typical of diabetes. Rose hipssea buckthorn and red peppers contain a considerable amount of vitamin C. Vitamin B, on the other hand, is found in larger quantities in yeast, fresh sunflower seeds and soy flour.

Tip 10: Sufficient zinc and chromium

Ensure you have an adequate supply of zinc and chromium: The trace element chromium significantly influences the lowering of blood sugar. For example, chromium is said to improve the insulin effect in diabetes, thus ensuring optimized blood sugar regulation. On the other hand, a lack of chromium can result in increased blood sugar levels. Chromium can be obtained through dietary supplements or whole grain bread, lentils or chicken.

In addition to chromium, the trace element zinc also influences the regulation of blood sugar levels. Among other things, zinc affects insulin formation, insulin action and insulin resistance. Oysters, wheat bran, Edam, oat flakes and sunflower seeds contain massive amounts of zinc.

For those who like it more exotic, the following tips for lowering blood sugar levels are available:

  • Aloe Vera: Products containing aloe vera can help lower blood sugar by improving insulin sensitivity. This allows insulin to transport glucose into the body’s cells better.
  • Pink catharanthe: The juice from the leaves of the pink catharanthe is said to have a blood-sugar-lowering effect. This is due to increased insulin release through the intake of herbal preparations. However, this makes the pink Catharanthe unsuitable for people without diabetes, as they could suffer from hypoglycaemia.
  • Gurmar: Gurmar is a creeper native to India, Africa and Australia. Gurmar positively affects blood sugar levels, as it reduces glucose absorption from the small intestine into the blood. In Germany, Gumar products are available in pharmacies.
