Mosquitoes: 6 tips against annoying insects
Mosquitoes annoy us especially at sunset, for example at a barbecue evening, in the bedroom or after work at the lake. The insects perceive the exhaled carbon dioxide, body heat and smell of humans.
1. Mosquito Repellent: These plants drive away the insects
These plants not only cut a fine figure on the terrace  , they can also help as mosquito repellent :
- Lavender
- lemon balm
- Tomato
- catnip
- Basil
- Fragrant geranium
Especially the smell and the essential oils of the plants put the mosquitoes to flight.
2. The Lemon: Simple mosquito repellent
If you want to drive away those annoying mosquitoes in the evening, you don’t necessarily have to resort to chemical products and odor enhancers. Tip:  A halved lemon  with cloves  can help and keep the little tormentors away.
3. Dry off the offspring
If you want to avoid the mosquito plague in summer, you should give the insects as few opportunities as possible to lay their eggs. Empty the rain barrel regularly and avoid standing water in empty flower pots on the balcony and terrace.
4. Wear the right clothes
Before hiking in forests and meadows or at a barbecue with friends, it is advisable to wear long clothing, such as a shirt or light pants, to avoid insect bites.
Especially in the forest and at picnics, make sure to wear long pants and socks if possible, this will also protect you from another insect, the tick.
5. Pay attention to your personal hygiene
The smell of sweat attracts mosquitoes, which is why they are particularly attractive to mosquitoes during sports or on hot days. In the evening, take a shower  before sitting on the balcony or terrace.
6. Mosquito nets and fly screens in front of the bedroom
To avoid disturbing your sleep  due to the annoying buzzing of the mosquito, use mosquito nets or fly screens in front of the window. This makes it difficult for insects to get into the bedroom.
Advantage: Â Especially on hot days you can ventilate with peace of mind.
Tip: Gin and tonic does not keep mosquitoes away
The gin’s essential oils are said to repel mosquitoes. However, to achieve this effect, large amounts of gin would have to be consumed. The rumor is a nice argument to look too deep into the glass at a barbecue – but pointless for the mosquito repellent itself.
