mRNA vaccination: heart muscle inflammation registered in the USA
Heart muscle inflammation can affect any age group. The trigger is usually a delayed infection. Therefore, doctors often advise against sports and physical exertion during a mild or severe cold  . These can promote the development of myocarditis  .
Inflammation of the heart muscle after corona vaccination with Moderna or BioNTech/Pfizer
The American drug agency FDA reported 789 cases of myocarditis or pericarditis (inflammation of the heart) in connection with a corona vaccination by the end of March. The complications mostly affected people under the age of 30 and were mostly mild.
In the case of mRNA vaccines  , myocardial inflammation was found after vaccination:
- 488 cases with BioNTech/Pfizer
- 301 cases with Moderna
With 475 cases, people under the age of 30 were particularly affected. Overall, one or more symptoms appeared:
- Chest pain (296 cases)
- An increase in cardiac enzymes (284 cases)
- Electrocardiogram changes (211 cases)
- Shortness of breath  (92 cases)
In addition, there were abnormal findings in imaging procedures of the heart.
Vaccination complication: heart muscle inflammation mostly in young people
To date, 226 cases have been classified as a complication or adverse reaction according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) case definition. However, it has not yet been possible to analyze all the data.
A total of 285 clinical patient data have been evaluated so far:
- 270 patients already discharged, 180 of them fully recovered (81 percent)
- 15 people are currently in the hospital
- 3 patients are treated in the intensive care unit (2 of them with previous illnesses)
A majority of myocarditis (573 out of 789) was noted after the second dose. In the 16 to 17 age group in particular, the number of cases (79) was significantly higher than expected. Cases were also significantly higher among 18-24 year olds (196 cases versus expected 8-83).
The previous analysis suggests that myocarditis could be classified as a possible vaccination complication. Initial evaluations assume that myocarditis could occur in 16 cases out of a million vaccinations. According to current knowledge, inflammation of the myocardium usually occurs after the second vaccination.
