Pure relaxation through floating
Stressed , overworked and tired ? And above all: no time? Floating, translated from English as “to hover”, is a relaxation technique that can achieve positive effects after the first application of about an hour. In a body-warm brine bath, the body swims in the water and is said to lead to new energy and strength. Floating means floating in a relaxed manner and relaxing while floating.
Was ist Floating?
Sometimes you just want to float away from the stress? There is actually a way to do that – with floating. With this method, which can achieve medical effects and is also popular in the wellness area, the body is placed in a state of levitation. Usually you climb into a so-called floating tank, i.e. a lockable container with a shallow basin that is filled with water.
The water is heated to a temperature of 34.8 °C , which is extremely comfortable for the body . This temperature corresponds to the natural outside temperature of the skin, so that you feel neither cold nor warm while bathing.
With a saline solution and a magnesium sulphate content of around 70 percent , the density in the water is increased to such an extent that it is possible for the body to simply float in the water, i.e. to hold itself up without effort and without sinking. Just floating leads to a pleasant relaxation of all muscles in the body. Many floaters describe entering the water and floating with the feeling of absolute deep relaxation, calm and serenity.
Escape from everyday life – stress goodbye
In order to really escape from everyday life and to be able to isolate yourself from stress and hectic, the shell-shaped floating tank is sound and light insulated. In the tank itself it is absolutely silent and dark, you float in the water while the tank is sealed.
This may sound oppressive at first, but the tactic of absolute isolation is intended to lead to the desired reduction in stress. The body and mind don’t have to be concerned with regulating temperature, sounds, or images. Because neither our brain nor our nervous system can be stimulated by optical or acoustic stimuli, an inner, mental calm can set in. At the same time, stress can be reduced and resistance to stress can be built up.
Positive effects from floating
In addition to therapy, it is also possible to achieve positive effects in burn-out syndrome with floating. Experts generally recommend floating to:
- relax the body and mind
- to strengthen the immune system
- to increase the ability to concentrate
A positive side effect should also be increased productivity and creativity.
The floating method for relaxation is also used to support medical treatment in many areas. For example, floating can also be used in sports medicine, orthopedics and pain medicine. The spine is relieved by the floating of the body and even stubborn tension can be released in the water.
At the same time, the brine bath is a treat for the skin. With regular use, the salt contained in the water can have a positive effect on skin problems such as acne or neurodermatitis .
Wellness-Variante: Floating-Areas
An alternative to the floating tank is also available as a wellness variant. So-called floating areas with open pools invite you to take a weightless bath in the water. An additional difference when it comes to floating in the wellness version is that light and sound effects are often integrated here. In addition, it is often possible to float in pairs.
Thus, the original idea of absolute tranquility in the wellness variant is somewhat alienated depending on how it is carried out. Absolute floating fans are enthusiastic about the separation in the floating tank from the environment and consider this to be indispensable.
However, for people who feel uncomfortable in closed, cramped spaces or even suffer from claustrophobia, wellness floating can be a good alternative or an introduction to “real” floating. No matter which type of floating you choose: Dive in, dive down and relax is the motto.
