Scrubs

The skin is constantly renewing itself. The dry and dead skin cells make it look colorless and dull, it quickly feels rough and uneven. This can be remedied by a peeling treatment that acts on the skin like fine sandpaper on wood: the peeling smoothes our outer shell. But a peeling can do even more: when the skin cells are removed, the blood circulation in the skin is stimulated at the same time, so that it has a rosy glow and is once again more receptive to care products. So that the peeling does not irritate, it should be tailored to the respective skin type.

Peeling: Adjust to skin type

The abrasive effect of a mechanical peel depends primarily on the size and smoothness of the abrasive particles used. Their use depends on the skin type. Fine plastic granules made of polyethylene are rounded granules and have a gentle and even sanding effect. They are therefore  suitable for sensitive and less callused skin  .

Peeling granules of vegetable origin (e.g. almond or cereal bran, ground apricot kernels) are significantly coarser in grain, have an irregular structure and a more intensive abrasive effect. They are more  suitable for large-pored, oily and calloused skin  , but also as a  full- body scrub.  The same applies to sea salt and sugar.

Peeling Forms

There are different types of scrubs depending on the area of application and the abrasive grains used:

Peeling skin type
washing scrubs normal to greasy
The Peeling Mask greasy and large-pored
Clay and sea sand peelings coarse, thick, heavily calloused
Peel-off-Masken normal to dry, sensitive
Means with an erasing effect poorly supplied with blood, large pores

Which peeling is suitable when?

  • Wash peelings  consist of a washing cream containing abrasive grains. The washing-active substances and abrasive particles cause the loosely fitting horn lamellae to detach. They are applied to cleansed skin and massaged in in circular motions. Everything is then thoroughly washed off; normal skin: once a week; oily skin : up to daily.
  • In addition to the abrasive particles, peeling masks  often contain additional chemical substances such as salicylic acid (horn-dissolving), allantoin (calming), surfactants (degreasing), healing or clay (healing, anti-inflammatory). Allow the mask to dry and then wipe it off with a damp cleaning cloth or sponge. Due to its strong degreasing effect, it is very suitable for oily and large-pored skin.
  • Bran and sea sand peelings : The cleaned bran is powdered, mixed with water to form a paste and massaged into the skin, then washed off. Good for rough, thick and heavily calloused skin.
  • Peel-off masks  have a gel-like consistency, are applied thinly to cleansed skin and, once dry, are removed from the skin as a whole. Excess horn particles are gently removed. This peeling is very gentle and slightly astringent and therefore well suited for normal, dry and sensitive skin.
  • Agents with an erasing effect  are applied to  dry skin  and allowed to dry. Then rub off the peeling with wet fingertips. In the trade, these preparations are often referred to as rubber creams. The simplest remedy is brewer’s yeast mixed with water  . This peeling is good for skin with poor circulation and large pores.

3 do-it-yourself scrubs

Before applying the peeling mask, it is best to clean the facial skin with a cleansing lotion and then moisten it slightly with lukewarm water.

  • Oil and sugar scrub  (for dry and normal skin): Mix a few spoonfuls of sugar with a few dashes of olive or sesame oil and mix thoroughly to form a paste. Apply this (possibly with a brush) thickly, leave for a few minutes and rinse off thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  • Healing earth and chamomile peeling  (for blemished skin): Boil chamomile tea and allow to cool. Mix five to six tablespoons of it with three tablespoons of healing clay and stir thoroughly to form a smooth paste. Apply this (possibly with a brush) and let it work for a few minutes. Once dry, rub gently with a damp towel and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Apply a moisturizer.
  • Almond yoghurt peeling  (for all skin types, prone to  pimples ): three tablespoons. Mix natural yoghurt with three tablespoons of ground almonds (alternatively  hazelnuts ) and one teaspoon of honey or marigold extract. Apply the paste thickly (possibly with a brush), leave on for a few minutes and rinse off thoroughly with lukewarm water.
