Showing limits – self-defense for children and women
Two out of five women have experienced sexual or physical violence in their lifetime. Their partner abuses one in four women. But resistance is helpful, as American and German studies have shown. Up to 80 per cent of attacks can be successfully repelled in this way. So, it is not surprising that more and more women and children are taking courses in self-defence or self-assertion.
Wide range of self-defence courses
If you are looking for self-defence courses, you will find a vast range of martial arts, such as:
- Karate Course
- Judo courses
- Wendo
- Taekwondo
- kickboxing
- Freight
- Kung Fu
Each of these martial arts can do something to make someone who practices regularly feel more secure against attack. However, a particularly effective form of self-defence is promised by WingTsun, a technique that primarily uses a quick form of defence, “Blitz Defence”.
Â
Lightning-fast defence: WingTsun
It is very likely that WingTsun, which means “beautiful spring”, was developed from the Chinese martial art of kung fu by a Buddhist nun of the same name a good 250 years ago to be able to defend herself against male attackers.
Blitz Defense was developed from WingTsun as a particular form of defence. The movements are usually short and straight or indicated spiral. A typical element of some Wing Chun styles is the chain punch, of which a skilled Wing Chun fighter executes 9 to 13 blows per second.
There are no artistic techniques such as kicks up to the head or complicated turns. Flowing movements and sudden speed merge into one another in a systematic and coordinated sequence of movements and form a new, powerful unit. A typical training instrument is a wooden dummy with several one to three “arms” on which power, coordination, precision and speed can be trained.
Attack as a defence
However, it takes a good six months to learn the technique. Then, she is ready to neutralize and use the opponent’s power against him by applying angle and rotation principles. While a blow is deflected, an attack co-occurs – because the attack is the defence. In role-playing games, the women sharpen their perception and combine WingTsun techniques with methods of conflict resolution.
It is said that systematic learning of WingTsun increases physical and mental flexibility and promotes perception. Targeted relaxation and concentration techniques and breathing exercises that recharge the body complement the way there.

Give children self-confidence
In the corresponding courses for children, the focus is not on hitting the target but strengthening their personality. Self-assertion and self-confidence are awakened and expanded in the children.Â
Because children who appear safe and self-confident are rarely molested or held against their will, in the self-assertion courses, the children’s awareness of conflicts that arise should also be sharpened. Rules of conduct for difficult situations should be shown.
Learn to say “no”.
Even when children have learned effective defensive postures and complex hitting techniques, they should try to avoid using martial arts whenever possible. This also includes learning to say no. Children should recognize what they do not want and how to express it to others. A prerequisite for this is taking your feelings seriously and being aware of your limits.
The self-confidence newly developed in the courses ensures that no victim signals are sent out, and it is, therefore, much less likely that women or children will be chosen as victims.
