In addition to the possibility of fasting in clinics, in a monastery or in special hotels, therapeutic fasting at home can be another option. Healthy or unhealthy – there are different views on fasting. Anyone who is convinced of fasting refers to the possible  positive effects on body and mind.  Fasting should lead to well-being and vitality and also strengthen the  immune  system, since the intestine is completely cleaned.

If you want to fast, you will first ask yourself how and where you can do fasting. For most, home is the closest choice. In the familiar environment, you are not exposed to any external pressure and can carry out your project as you wish.

However, no guidance from experienced specialists is possible. So if you fast at home, you should pay special attention to your body. Slight side effects such as  circulatory problems  and  headaches  can occur, but in the event of severe physical symptoms, the fast should be broken off carefully and, if in doubt, a doctor should be consulted.

If you want to do fasting therapy, you also need a good deal of discipline, whether you’re doing fasting therapy at home or somewhere else. The duration of the therapeutic fasting depends on the respective method. Five days are recommended for beginners.

Fasting in your own environment can have many advantages, because it is well known that you feel most comfortable at home. However, there are a few traps lurking in the familiar environment that can encourage the premature termination of a fasting cure. It is therefore important to make some  preparations  that make it easier to carry out the planned therapeutic fasting at home.

Please note the following tips to ensure that therapeutic fasting at home is a success.

1) Buy right

Before fasting, buy all the  groceries you need  for the fast and for the relief and build-up day. In this way you can avoid being tempted into buying the usual food in the supermarket. Basically, the following applies: During fasting, only liquid in the form of vegetable broth, juices or  tea  is consumed. Before and after fasting, the body should slowly get used to the change in diet.

2) Motivation from others

Talk about your project. Because colleagues, family members or friends can support you with therapeutic fasting and have a motivating effect on you on fasting days that you find difficult.

3) Clean out the fridge

Remove as many foods from your fridge as possible that might have a particular attraction to you during the therapeutic fast, such as chocolate pudding or sausage.

If other family members live with you, a joint initiative such as “We’ll all go without sweets together for a week” could strengthen your plan and have a positive effect on everyone else as well.

4) The right time

Keep in mind that fasting, especially in the first few days, can mean that your body is not in top gear. You may feel  tired  and listless. It is best to start therapeutic fasting at home at the weekend or on a day off.

5) Take it easy

At home, give yourself the rest you need while fasting. Do not overload your body, as the circulatory system is already stressed by fasting.

6) Exercise is good for you

Nevertheless, plan moderate exercise into your therapeutic fasting. Long walks in the fresh air are good for the body. But gentle sports such as  yoga  can also be an ideal supplement to therapeutic fasting at home. Because with yoga in particular, the effect of inner peace and mental clarity can be strengthened and fasting at home can be positively supported.

7) Stay away from cigarettes

As a smoker, try to abstain from it during therapeutic fasting. The inhaled cigarette smoke burdens the body unnecessarily and can reduce the effect of internal body cleansing.

8) Never fast on your own

Even if you fast at home, you should not do it on your own. Get advice from your family doctor beforehand to check the health requirements for therapeutic fasting. This applies in particular if previous illnesses are known. In principle, only healthy people should be advised to fast alone at home.

9) Take care of your body

Most adults tolerate therapeutic fasting well, even if slight side effects such as  migraines  or  dizziness  can occur. However, you should take care of your body. If you notice stronger physical complaints in the course of the fasting days, you should break off the fasting carefully and gradually and, if in doubt, consult a doctor.

10) Treat yourself

Reward yourself each day of fasting for persevering with something that brings you joy, such as a trip to the cinema, theater tickets, or fresh flowers. This will help keep you  motivated  .
