Vacation despite Corona: This is what it looks like in the popular countries
In Great Britain, the delta variant accounts for 90 percent of all new infections, and the dangerous corona mutation is also on the rise in Portugal and Russia.
Delta variant could spoil summer vacation
Anyone who was looking forward to the holiday due to falling incidence figures may have been looking forward to it too early. The Delta variant, which first appeared in India, has also arrived in Europe and other regions. Great Britain, Russia and Portugal are particularly badly affected.
If a country is classified as a virus variant area, this has far-reaching consequences for travelers. Without exception, returnees must go into quarantine for 14 days after staying in a virus variant area, despite full vaccination, negative test or proof of recovery.
The current situation in the holiday countries is only a snapshot, but gives first indications. This is how it currently looks in the popular holiday countries.
1. Italy: Hardly any delta mutations
After Italy was a corona hotspot for a long time, especially last year, the situation in the country is currently very calm. The 7-day incidence is 8.3, according to the GISAID science initiative, the proportion of corona infections with the new Delta variant is currently 18.5 percent (as of June 29th). So far there have been no travel warnings, the current figures give hope for a relaxing summer holiday on the Adriatic.
2. Austria: Rapid vaccination progress and low incidence
The chances are good for a quiet holiday in the Alps or the vineyards of Burgenland. The current incidence in the neighboring country is 7.2 (as of June 29th). According to GISAID, the Delta variant accounts for 39.1 percent of new infections.
However, since only a small proportion of new infections were checked for virus variants at all, no precise information can be given about the current distribution of the delta variant.
The current vaccination progress  and the incidence make a holiday in Austria currently possible without any problems.
3. Spain: Incidence is increasing, archipelago also affected
The proportion of the delta variant is around 21.8 percent of new infections. However, not all positive results are tested for possible variants. The rapid increase in infections and high incidence (59.9) may be due to the aggressive Delta variant. New infections and increasing incidences are being registered, especially in tourist hotspots such as Mallorca and the Canary Islands. Spain continues to relax.
4. Greece: So far, summer holidays have been possible without any problems
Greece has abolished the obligation to wear masks outdoors and is also making you want to go on a holiday by the sea. With an incidence of 26.1, the delta variant has not yet been registered. However, even in Greece, the positive samples are only partially examined to that effect. As long as the incidence is constantly below 30, nothing stands in the way of a holiday in Greece.
5. France: Beach holidays with low incidence values
In France, 9.1 percent of new infections are currently due to the delta variant. With an incidence of 19.1, there is currently little danger from the corona mutation. The French coasts are currently the perfect holiday destination for a relaxed beach or surf holiday.
6. Croatia: Sailing holidays shouldn’t be a problem
The low incidence (11.7) in Croatia gives hope for sailing, sea and coastal cities. The proportion of the delta variant is currently 25.7 percent, but cannot be related to the current incidence due to the low evaluation of positive samples. So far the situation in Croatia has been stable.
7. Turkey: Vacationers from Russia could bring Delta variant
The Turkey vacation is currently to be treated with caution. Although the incidence has leveled off at just under 50, the virus variants are not being examined. Since Turkey is also a popular holiday destination for guests from Russia, they could bring the Delta variant from their home country.
Vacation possible with restrictions despite Corona
Even during the pandemic  , summer vacation is possible with restrictions. However, travelers must be aware that rules and regulations can change quickly due to the current situation. If you want to be on the safe side during your trip, you should take out travel cancellation insurance with corona protection. Also on vacation, pay attention to the hygiene rules and distance to other people as well as the corona and entry rules of the respective country.
