What is blood sedimentation?
If you hit yourself, you get a bruise. If you cut yourself, you have to treat the open wound. But what if the cause of a disease is not known? In most cases, the doctor will draw blood and examine it. Blood sedimentation and blood count are the most important examinations that give the doctor information about certain processes in the body and ultimately enable an exact diagnosis. Because – according to medical wisdom – God put the diagnosis before the therapy.
Increased blood sedimentation as the first indication
The blood sedimentation provides a first orientation. A blood sedimentation does not lead to the final diagnosis, but shows whether further examinations are necessary. The sinking speed of the blood cells is measured. In the case of inflammatory processes in the body, blood sedimentation is increased , as doctors say.
The blood picture
The blood count says a lot more about a person’s health. For example, an increased number of white blood cells (leukocytes) indicates an inflammation in the body caused by bacteria or fungi . Depending on the number and content of blood pigment (hemoglobin), the red blood cells (erythrocytes) can indicate anemia. Finally, the platelets (thrombocytes) are responsible for blood clotting. If the number is small, further investigations are necessary to find out the cause.
